"The Time After-Reset" was commissioned by the Festival "Essen NOW" already in 2019. From the very beginning it was evident that it could only be realized by "Kyai Fatahillah" led by Iwan Gunawan from Bandung. It was also a pleasure for me to include my close friend Max Riefer as percussionist. The "Fixed Media" are electronically modified gamelan sounds.
We practised one week in Musikschule Leverkusen on the instruments of Martin Ehrhardt (thanks Martin). The performance took place at the fantastic hall of the Essen Philharmonic (thanks to the great team there as well).
The piece is dedicated to Kyai Fatahillah, Max Riefer and Katharina Roth.
Remarks:
1. The visual quality is not perfect as there was only one camera in the hall, but it still gives a good impression.
2. For real afficonados it might be interesting to compare this final version with the rehearsal version from February 2020 in Bandung. The slightly different tunings (and quite mediocre percussion instruments) had significant effects. The tuning here (the set owned by Martin Ehrhardt) in Essen was the one that I took as a basis of the composition.
