Official Baseball Rule 6.01(i)(2) prohibits the catcher, without possession of the ball, from blocking home plate when a runner is sliding in or attempting to score a run. We see here that A's catcher Sean Murphy blocked Rangers baserunner Eli White as White attempted to score, setting up with his left foot blocking White's path to home plate prior to possessing the baseball.
This is violation of OBR 6.01(i)(2) for illegal plate blocking, the penalty for which is a dead ball and the awarding of home plate to the offended runner, thus scoring a run.
