What does it mean to have a 'tutor' in a NSW personal injury claim and when is one required?
In serious injury cases, an injured person may not be able to manage their own legal affairs due to cognitive, psychological, or brain injuries. When that happens, the law allows a tutor to be appointed to act on their behalf.
Alternatively, the plaintiff may be a minor and under the age of 18, therefore any claim will be brought by their tutor - who is often a parent or guardian.
In this video, I explain:
• What a tutor is in a NSW personal injury claim
• When a tutor is required
• Who can act as a tutor
• How a tutor is appointed
If you or a loved one has suffered a serious injury and you’re unsure whether a tutor is required, getting early advice is important.
