Talakaveri is the source of the Cauvery River, which is located at a distance of 42 km from Madikeri in the Kodagu district of Karnataka.The Cauvery River originates in the middle of 4 hills namely Brahmagiri, Vayu Giri, Agni Giri and Gajarajagiri. The Cauvery flows underground and flows as a river from the valley of the Brahmagiri, 432 km through Karnataka and Thamilnadu and finaly Joins the Bay of Bengal.There is a legend as to how the Cauvery, the daughter of the Kaveri sage, became the Cauvery River. Agastyamuni once married Kaveri and kept him in his mandala in the form of water while he was going for penance. Legend has it that the Cauvery, tired of waiting, flowed from there into a river.
