Eikþyrnir & Fire Emblem, Contextualized [Documentary]

Описание: This is a story about a fictional man unlike any that has come before it. A story about the ups and downs of the beloved Fire Emblem Series, and how passionate fans of both made their voices and presence known as they rallied around their champion: Eikþyrnir.

And its my first time making a video like this!!! I hope whoever finds it has as much fun watching it as I did making it. I had originally started writing the script for this about four days before Brave Eikþyrnir’s banner released back in mid august. Although I severely underestimated how much there was to say and how long the creative process takes, I had a blast the entire time. This was one of the most creatively fulfilling things I have ever made and I am delighted with how it turned out. It is very empowering to put something together like this with my own two hands and put my thoughts into art. I love to write and put on a show! I am very glad that by meticulously piecing together this documentary, I was able to do both!

This documentary was intended to be an exhaustive overview of how Eikþyrnir rose to popularity. I hope that through this video, anyone who is curious about this character and/or why he is popular may have their questions answered or at least be entertained by the experience. I will not pretend as though I speak for everyone who is a fan or voted for him, but I hope that any fan of Eikþyrnir might identify at least a little bit with the ideas presented in this video.

I tried to be as objective as possible when recounting the history of Fire Emblem as it relates to Eikþyrnir while also having fun and made an effort to make the video entertaining. I included some pointed criticism towards specific problems in the modern Fire Emblem series that Eikþyrnir, as a work of art(speaking narratively, visually, and through game design), contrasts against in the best ways. I believe the way he exists against all of the issues I presented here is a massive part of his appeal.

I made this video because I really wanted it to exist. Rather than just telling people "X thing is good/bad", I think there is value in explaining why. Putting thought into these kinds of things is a fun creative exercise!

If I were to criticize my own work here, one thing I don't like is how overstimulating the visuals can be at times. When writing the script, I felt as though there were times where it would be more efficient to condense the information by visually showing some things instead of explaining them verbally. I am happy with the flow of this script, but at certain points, the video is visually overwhelming and moves very quickly. One may have to pause or rewind the video to soak in all the information... Since it was in an effort to shorten the runtime, I suppose it can't be helped. I also tried my best to deliver a passionate voice over when appropriate, but I'm still quite new to this kind of thing and struggled to maintain consistent audio throughout this video's massive runtime.

I am very glad to have found Fire Emblem, and after seeing how Eikþyrnir was received, I am very content to be among his fans. While I made an effort so that all types of people could enjoy this video, and tried my best to paint Eikþyrnir’s fanbase as the diverse group it is, I will admit that this video was made for gay nerds on the internet. They deserve so much more than what they are used to, so I hope this video, which I made with love, puts a smile on a gay nerd’s face.
