Wild elephants are creating panic and demanding easy food to allow vehicles to pass by. This is one of the busy highways which is running via Yala national park Sri Lanka. Unfortunately, some irresponsible people who are using this highway, keep feeding on these wild elephants despite the warnings. Bad habits and easy food are now becoming a life-threatening factor for the elephants and humans who use this highway.
The Sri Lankan elephant (Elephas maximus maximus) is one of three recognized subspecies of the Asian elephant, and native to Sri Lanka. Since 1986, Elephas maximus has been listed as endangered by IUCN as the population has declined by at least 50% over the last three generations, estimated to be 60–75 years.
