✅ *What You’ll Learn in This Video:*
In this DIY video, I’ll show you how to install custom-fit rebar window bars without any welding—just a drill, a drill bit (preferably an auger bit), and some construction adhesive or cement. This is a great beginner-level project that adds real security to your home or workshop.
*Here’s what I cover:*
How to measure and mark your window frame for bar spacing
What size drill bit to use for half-inch rebar
How to cut rebar to size using an angle grinder (or other tools like a hacksaw or metal-cutting saw)
How to optionally paint the bars for a clean, finished look
How to install the bars securely using Loctite construction adhesive
Easy cleanup and finishing tips
No torch, no welder—just simple tools and solid results.
🛠️ *Tools & Materials I Used:*
Drill and 5/8" auger bit
1/2" rebar (cut to 36" lengths)
Handheld angle grinder (you can also use a hacksaw or metal-cutting saw)
Optional: spray paint (I used black)
Construction adhesive (I used Loctite, but any cement adhesive will do)
Cloth for cleanup
💡 Tip: If you're installing bars into wood framing, make sure your adhesive or cement works for that surface. Epoxy or anchoring cement are other good options.
If you like to follow along, here are some moments from the video:
69.5" span with bars spaced just under 5" apart
Measured center at 1 ¾" on a 3.5" window frame
Used 5/8" drill bit for ½" rebar fit
Cut each rebar section to 36"
Painted, dried, then reinstalled
Used Loctite adhesive to lock each bar in place
Wiped away excess adhesive for a clean finish
