Then came salvation — the Neue Klasse.
Fresh capital, fresh engines, and a bold new design language led by Wilhelm Hofmeister. His kinked C-pillar would become a signature seen across decades of BMWs.
The star of this renaissance? The 2000 CS — coach-built by Karmann, powered by the M10 engine, and finished with a cabin full of real wood and optimism.
