Are Triggerfish reef safe?

A rant/talk about keeping triggerfish in a reef. My trigger is a Niger Triggerfish
I recommend a blue-chin triggerfish, because they are beautiful and friendly.
Fish stores and dealers say that triggerfish are not reef safe.. This is true with some species of triggerfish, however, it is not always the case. Triggerfish are very intelligent fish, and each have their own personalities. They have armor-like scales that make them highly resistant to diseases. You can also play with your triggerfish with your hand, and develop a relationship with them. Watch for potential bites though!

Keeping triggerfish in a reef tank is possible by following these guide-lines

CLOWN TRIGGERFISH ARE NOT RECOMMENDED (IN REEF TANKS)

ALWAYS INTRODUCE YOUR TRIGGERFISH LAST, IF YOU WANT TO INTRODUCE A LARGER FISH LATER-ON, THAT IS OKAY

If you introduce your triggerfish first, he will regard the WHOLE tank as his territory. Expect introducing new fish that are smaller to get attacked. Unless you have a 300 gallon+ tank. PLAN AHEAD!

ALWAYS KEEP YOUR TRIGGERFISH WELL FED WITH A VARIETY OF MEATY FOODS

If you only feed your triggerfish pellets, he might get bored and want to try something new. Don't let that be your poor hermit crab. Feed him anything from Brine shrimp, to squid. Make that he finishes what you give him. A left-over piece of shrimp can worsen water quality. If you have sufficient janitors (scavengers) don't worry about it.

PROVIDE YOUR TRIGGERFISH WITH PLENTY OF SWIMMING ROOM

Any tank smaller than 55 gallons will cause issues. If you have a 55 gallon, make sure the triggerfish is a juvenile.

Please Understand that Triggerfish are all different. Your Bluechin trigger may eat a crab or two. But the odds are with you if you follow the guidelines above.
