Rolling With Reason 30: Jobless, Typing, Jiu Jitsu

Описание: In this episode I talk through a big transition I just made: I “dragged up” and left my job after ongoing tension around how problems were being handled and how the team was (or wasn’t) working together. I unpack why I felt I couldn’t stay in an environment where leadership seemed disconnected from the guys in the field, and how that pushed me to double down on surrounding myself with people and spaces that actually align with my goals and values.

I also share how reading Animal Farm in one sitting, alongside slowly grinding through The Gulag Archipelago, gave me a different lens on power, responsibility, and how history can echo in modern workplaces, including my own recent experience. On the nerd side, I dive into the humbling process of relearning how to touch type while working through Django for Beginners, and how the cognitive overload of pairing new typing mechanics with programming briefly had me questioning everything, but also showed me how rewarding it is to push through that discomfort.

From there I shift into Jiu Jitsu: giving an update on my ankle, why I’m probably skipping competition in February, and how I’m trying to sharpen my Octopus 2.0 guard and leg lock game even if it means getting smashed a bit while I figure out the mechanics. I close by reflecting on isolation, recentering myself in a new studio space, missing podcasting with John, and encouraging anyone listening to evaluate their own environment, accept that nothing hard is easy.....whether it’s a job change, touch typing, or a tricky guard, and still choose the path that feels most aligned with becoming their best self.
