• 2 oz Woodford Reserve Straight Bourbon Whiskey
• ¼ oz simple syrup
• 8 mint leaves
• Dash of Angostura bitters
• Mint sprig, for garnish

METHOD | In a copper mug or rocks glass, lightly muddle the mint leaves in the simple syrup. Then go ahead and add the bourbon and pack the glass tightly with crushed ice. Give it a good stir until the cup is frosted on the outside. Top with more crushed ice to form an ice dome, and garnish with a mint sprig. Hold your horses! Wait about 10 minutes to enjoy — a proper mint julep needs the ice to melt down a bit.

Pro tip: Firmly slap the mint sprig on the back of your hand before garnishing; this releases the oils to make the mint more aromatic.
