California’s home insurance crisis remains a major issue as enrollment in the California FAIR Plan continues to rise. The FAIR Plan, the state’s insurer of last resort, provides basic fire coverage to homeowners who cannot obtain insurance in the traditional admitted market. It is funded by insurance companies, not taxpayers. Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara and Assemblymember Lisa Calderon have introduced AB 1680, a bill that would require the FAIR Plan to offer full homeowners insurance coverage rather than only fire insurance.
