Longer video paints picture of CovCath confrontation in DC

Описание: PARK HILLS, Ky. (WKRC) - Police investigated threats made against some Covington Catholic high school students Monday in the wake of a video that went viral over the weekend of the students crowded around an older Native American man and chanting at him.

The short video clip surfaced Saturday and kicked off an internet firestorm. It showed the students appearing to mock Nathan Phillips, a Native American elder who was taking part of an Indigenous People's event at the Lincoln Memorial. The Covington Catholic students were in the nation's capital for the March for Life event.

But Sunday, a nearly two-hour long video surfaced that showed what happened in the hour before the short video clip. The video was shot by a member of the Black Hebrew Israelites. The group was holding a small event at the Lincoln Memorial Friday. The students and their chaperones were waiting for a bus at the memorial. Many of the students were wearing "Make America Great Again" hats. Those hats were sold by Donald Trump's campaign when he ran for president. The video starts by showing one of the Black Israelites explaining why they are at the memorial.

"What we're out here trying to do is wake up our people to the truth of the holy scripture," one man said.

Approximately three minutes into the video, words are exchanged between members of the group and Native Americans who were participating in the Indigenous People's rally. The following exchange took place between a black Israelite and a Native American:

Black Israelite member: "Indian means savage."

Native American man: "I don't know where you got that."

Black Israelite member: "Look it up, brother."

Native American man: "I did look it up. I'm a historian."

A woman who tried to speak to the Black Israelites was not spared from criticism.

"This is the problem, Israel, is always our women coming up with their loud mouth," said the man who filmed the video.

Eleven minutes into the video, the first Covington Catholic students come into view. They caught the eye of the man who shot the video who said to the teens: "Tell 'em come over here in the lions' den instead of mocking over there. You little dirty-ass crackers. Your day is coming."
