Mid-Day Meal Workers or Pachika Protest in Bhubaneswar: Thousands Stage Overnight Dharna at Lower PMG

Massive protests erupted in Bhubaneswar as thousands of mid-day meal cooks and helpers staged a continuous agitation at Lower PMG, right in front of the Assembly. Under the banner of Nikhil Odisha Mid-Day Meal Cook-Cum-Helper Association, the protesters have taken to the streets, even sleeping on roads, demanding their rights.

The association alleged that they have not received salaries for the last three months and demanded immediate payment. Along with pending wages, they have raised several key demands including salary hike, equal pay for equal work, increasing retirement age to 62 years, reappointment of retrenched workers, timely monthly salary within the first week, and release of ₹1 lakh death compensation announced by the previous government.

The protest has intensified political and administrative pressure as the workers continue their day-and-night dharna seeking urgent government intervention.
