The gyudon (beef bowl) is an iconic Japanese rice bowl, easy to make & filled with umami!
[Ingredients (serves 2)]
250 - 300g thinly sliced beef (typically sold as "sukiyaki beef")
1/2 onion
1 tbsp beef tallow
Thinly sliced ginger (optional)
Shichimi & sesame (optional topping)
[Broth Ingredients]
200ml water
2 tbsp soy sauce
2 tbsp sake
2 tbsp shirodashi
2 tbsp sugar
1. Slice up beef into bite sized pieces, thinly slice onions & ginger.
2. Lightly sauté sliced onions in beef tallow.
3. Add & mix broth ingredients above, mix & add optional ginger.
4. Lightly simmer for 5 minutes.
5. Add the beef, fully submerge, lightly simmer for 5 minutes.
6. Leave it for a few minutes, put on top of rice along with toppings.
