Before there was Excel… or even computers for that matter, accounting looked a little different. Everything done today on an iPhone calculator or an Excel spreadsheet was first done on old fashion adding machine and pencil and paper. Employees would keep track of the hotel accounting by writing on a sheet of paper the numbers for the day. At the end of the month, they would need to compile every number to use in a monthly report.
Can you imagine what the end-of-the-year report looked like?
Line items of the spread included last year month to date, room service, garden room, room service, checks drawn today, permanent occupied rooms, etc.
