About me
I am Kanazawa Kurumi - a Mizuhiki craft artist and teacher in Kanazawa, Japan.
We open a Mizuhiki accessories workshop in Kanazawa, a coastal city of the Sea of Japan in central Japan.
Our workshop is in an 150-year old national treasure wooden house and is located near Omicho fish market that offers fresh fish from the sea of Japan.

*Mizuhiki - its history and utilisation
Japanese traditional craft, Mizuhiki. It is said that the history of Mizuhiki began around the 7th century when trades between Japan and China were active. The origin of Mizuhiki is that China put red and white strings on the gifts.

• Japanese traditional craft, Mizuhiki
Even nowadays, Mizuhiki is used in Japan. At weddings, guests bring money with an envelope on which Mizuhiki is put, or we put Mizuhiki on a seasonal gift.
Apart from them, one other utilisation of Mizuhiki is Yuino. Yuino is a traditional present exchange ceremony on engagement. The bloom's and the bride's family exchange gifts on which decorative Mizuhiki is put. Things represent long life and happiness - cranes, turtles, flowers, pine and fish, are made with short and thin Mizuhiki strings.
Particularly in a city called Kanazawa, located in central Japan on the coastal area of the Sea of Japan, Mizuhiki is commonly used as a traditional craft art. Crafters follow traditional ways to tie and make many craft art like accessories or interior decoration.
