This initiative aims to enhance infrastructure, boost tourism, and showcase Lahore's rich cultural heritage.

Key Features of the Tourism Corridor Project:

Project Cost and Funding: The project is estimated at PKR 3.28 billion, with an initial allocation of PKR 1 billion for the current fiscal year.

Road Infrastructure: Construction includes a newly expanded, wide carpeted road with model structure fences on both sides, designed to improve accessibility and aesthetic appeal.

Cultural Highlights: Decorative sidewalls will be constructed along the corridor, reflecting Lahore's vibrant culture and history, enhancing the visual experience for travelers.

Tourist Facilities: Plans include the installation of model carts and modern stairways to facilitate tourists, aiming to create a more engaging and comfortable environment.

Expansion of the Joint Check Post at Wagah:

In conjunction with the Tourism Corridor, the Joint Check Post at Wagah is undergoing a significant expansion to improve security and accommodate increasing tourist numbers.

Project Timeline: Construction commenced on June 10, 2024, with an expected completion date of December 31, 2025.

Spectator Capacity: The expansion will increase the seating capacity from 8,000 to 24,000, allowing more visitors to witness the daily flag-lowering ceremony.

Additional Facilities: The project includes a state-of-the-art historical museum, modern waiting lounges, a green room for VVIPs, and offices for Pakistan Rangers.

Flagpole Enhancement: The existing flagpole will be relocated and increased in height from 115 to 135 meters, making it the world's third-highest flagpole.

These developments are set to transform the route to the Wagah Border into a vibrant tourism corridor, enhancing the experience for both local and international visitors.
