There are reports Tuesday of a deadly explosion in the Syrian capital of Damascus. Syrian state media is reporting that Israel fired missiles at a residential building, killing seven civilians, but Israel’s military has not confirmed its involvement. Meanwhile, Israel’s ground offensive in Lebanon is expanding alongside its campaign of airstrikes, with troops moving into an area of southwestern Lebanon. Redmond Shannon explains.

Plus, there was a major acknowledgement Tuesday for “groundbreaking” Canadian research on artificial intelligence. University of Toronto professor Geoffrey Hinton – nicknamed the “Godfather of AI”— is one of two Nobel Prize winners in physics, for his discoveries on the mechanics of AI. Eric Sorensen reports.
