India is witnessing a sudden rise in LPG cylinder prices amid the ongoing Middle East conflict. Recently, the price of domestic LPG cylinders increased by ₹60, while commercial cylinders used by hotels and restaurants have become costlier by around ₹115.
At the same time, the government has also revised the LPG booking rule. Earlier, consumers could book the next cylinder after 21 days, but now the minimum waiting period has been increased to 25 days to prevent panic buying and hoarding.
Because of tightening supply in some regions, restaurants, hotels, and PG kitchens that depend on commercial LPG cylinders are reportedly facing difficulties. Some small food businesses have even been forced to increase food prices or temporarily stop operations.
One of the major reasons behind this situation is the ongoing Iran–Israel conflict, which has disrupted global energy supply routes, especially the Strait of Hormuz — a crucial shipping route for LPG imports to India. Since India imports a large portion of its cooking gas from the Middle East, global tensions can directly impact LPG prices in the country.
However, the government has assured that there is no shortage of domestic LPG supply and steps are being taken to stabilize the situation by increasing production and diversifying import sources.
as of March 12, 2026, Iran has allowed Indian-flagged oil tankers safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz despite intense regional conflict. This follows diplomatic talks between India and Iran regarding the safety of Indian ships and crew, while ships from the US, Israel, and Europe face restrictions.
