These birds are a type of grouse known for their camouflage, which allows them to change from a mottled brown in summer to a white plumage in winter. 


Join my two boys and me as we set out on our first-ever rock ptarmigan hunt in the rugged, windswept barrens of Newfoundland.
This wasn’t just a hunt—it was a full family adventure.
We hiked across wide-open country, climbed to the top of a hill for a simple but unforgettable trail-side lunch, and took in some of the most beautiful landscapes Newfoundland has to offer. Along the way we explored the terrain, shared a lot of laughs, and made memories we’ll be talking about for years.
