Описание: At least 389 people have been killed and more than 1,300 are missing, including 33 British tourists, in Nepal and Tibet, following devastating flash flooding on Wednesday.

Rescue teams are searching for 826 people missing in Nepal and 558 in Tibet after a catastrophic torrent of floods and mud swept through several communities following a glacial collapse.

A 13-year-old and 14-year-old are among the missing British nationals.

In an update on Thursday, Nepali police said the number of those killed now stands at 389. They also broke down the death figures by district, with most bodies, 137, found in Chitwan, 87 in Nawalparasi East, 33 in Dhading, 32 in Gorkha, 28 in Nuwakot, 28 in Tanahun, 17 in Rasuwa and 27 in Nawalparasi West.

Chinese state broadcaster CCTV said that three people have died on the Tibetan side of the border, that 260 of the 558 missing people in Tibet were foreigners and that two villagers were rescued.

Resident Shoyam Rajbhandari said: "When I reached Dhunge bazaar, in half an hour, the flood came and damaged all the market. People were preparing to go to office then.

"How many people are missing or dead, we don’t know."

The village of Soley in Nuwakot was virtually wiped out, said Nirajan Paudyal, a Kathmandu-based journalist whose parents and other relatives live there.

"There is no update till now. I fear there won’t be any update," Paudyal said.

Sunil Sharma, a tourism board spokesperson, said that among the missing tourists, at least 33 were from Britain, 65 people from the United States, 35 from Australia and 24 from Canada.

He also said that 133 were from India on pilgrimage to Mount Kailash in Tibet, a sacred site for Hindus.

A Nepalese tour operator, The Trekkers’ Society, has confirmed that nine UK nationals, including a teenager, on a pilgrimage to Mount Kailash have been missing since crossing the Nepal-Tibet border.

The Trekkers’ Society said that among the British citizens who were completing one of its tours to the sacred Hindu site were four males, aged 14, 50, 50, and 54, and five females, aged 40, 46, 50, 50, and 53.

On Thursday, general manager Roshan Basnet said: "When the flood happened, they were still at the Chinese immigration (at) the border. After the flood happened, we had no contact with our tour guide."
