Painting is about evoking feelings, in you and in the viewer. Temperature can be very motivating aspect in a wintery scene. In this painting, I show a wet-on-wet blooms that mimic drifting snow and fog, Kosher salt fractures the pigment like frost crystals forming on glass, and stark inked trees and scratchy vegetation that feel brittle and dormant.
The 'cold' becomes a metaphor for pause, rest and space between seasons. A good cold painting reminds us that dormancy is not death, it's preparation.
