Epic day on a coastal trip I scored too myself and just a few surfers Set were well over head and thick due to a high period ground swell. Rides were a klm long and wind a gusty cross off, between rain squalls that nearly cost me another drone haha.

3 years ago when I stared foiling, it was a dream to ride this wave and now, with the right gear and right conditions, it's reality.

Looking back at the footage, I really should have pushed and turned harder and more critically and hindsight is a wonderful thing, but in the moment, I'm managing speed, boils, seaweed and super conscious of not wiping out in front of surfers and having me, my foil and hand wing roll through the line up. I also didn't want to tear up my brand new Vayu Aura v2, I like it too much haha! ha but now it's been christened in bigger stuff now, so it's game on from here..!

The Code 720 S, short fuse, 85 cm high mast and 142 tail, shimmed to 0.5m for top end speed, performing amazingly with the perfect balance of bottom end to get on foil early, top end to manage high period waves moving at 30 kph plus and the ability to be stable at speed, allowing me actually relax, enjoy myself and not just survival foiling. It also handles air rated chop really well for a small foil and a 9:5 aspect ratio.

VAYU Aura V2, there's some amazing close up footage from Nick, where I'm trying to get to the tiny trough in front of the high period, thick swell line. To do this I have to pull 22 knots and then instantly depower to have total contol on the wave! The Aura does this beautifully, with a perfect balance of power and soft feel, with stiff leading KPE165 leading edge, cabon handles and soft wing tips, that slew of strong gusts, meaning I don't get puled around while focusing on the wave. While flagging neutrally in gust conditions and apparent wind rushing up the wave face, I forget about the wing, as it's so light and just control it's direction with the stiff LE handle. The wing didn't flip or invert on me once! You can see after I wipe out, how easily I get start for a 4m, 720 sq cm foil and a 90 kg human on a 85 L board.. Epic wave and all round wing, just so light and balanced!

SUNOVA Carver 5'10" x 20" x 85" - This board is my light wind and wave board. When wave riding critical sections and size, all I want to do is get on foil early in the lightest winds, not catch rail when leaning over and banking on turns and have a sharp rail release to get on foil early. It also give me the volume to paddle like a wet cat if the wind drops out and I'm stuck in the impact zone. It's got foot straps, if you like to strap in, but I snapped my left knee ACL winging, so I don't wear straps any more..

Super grateful for Nick Thorne of Wingfoil Life you tube channel coming down and droning me! It's super hard to get people to film, as usually everyone wants to be on water or like nick, finish work, dropped the kids a kinder and then made the commitment down the coast. What a legend!
