At a weeklong 2nd meeting of States Parties on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), the Buddhist organization Soka Gakkai International (SGI)—in consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)—and the Center for International Security and Policy (CISP), the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the UN and the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) organized a side event with a documentary film premier titled “I want to Live On” on November 28, 2023.
The documentary highlighted the testimony of Algerim Yelgeldy, a third-generation survivor of the Semipalatinsk Nuclear Test Site.
The speakers included Alimzhan Akhmetov of CISP, Hirotsugu Terasaki, Director General of Peace and Global Issues of SGI, and a government representative of Kazakhstan, Arman Baissuanov.
