(23 Jun 2017) President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump are hosting their first Congressional picnic. The president said he hoped that a spirit of "unity" would soon develop in the nation's capital.
Trump on Thursday evening offered his prayers for Rep. Steve Scalise, who was seriously wounded in a shooting last week. He paid tribute to the bipartisan cooperation on display the next night at the annual Congressional charity baseball game.
The president said "I know the country would be doing a lot better" if that spirit would continue.
The South Lawn of the White House was meant to resemble Manhattan's Central Park as a tribute to the New Yorkers who now call the White House home.
