Home movies shot by Lieutenant Daniel Karp during his service in the Air Force in the Korean War. Karp was mainly stationed in Japan. This film shows activities primarily around the Air Base at Ashiya, Japan. An unidentified dignitary arrives at the Headquarters for the 403rd Troop Carrier Wing, home of the Korean airlift. A formal ceremony, inspection, marching, and awarding of medals follows. Mostly men gathered at Ashiya Beach to witness the selection of "Miss Ashiya Air Base" and "Miss Korean Airlift" beauty contest (May 17, 1952), where Japanese women walk runway-style in their bathing suits. Large groups of people swimming and relaxing at the beach. A plane comes in for a landing nearby. Soldiers in silver helmets gather for a formal greeting on the tarmac. A car drives away. A USO show performance from a stage with a variety of musicians, singers, and dancers.
