Paper-making areas are found throughout Japan, but compared with Western paper, which is made from wood-pulp, Japanese paper is made from a limited range of materials, and is produced in small amounts. Consequently, Japanese paper is expensive, so demand for it has declined. Samurai.jp combines a hand-made lamp frame, which has hand-made Japanese paper affixed to it, with an LED. The lamp is comforting to look at, as it recreates the natural, flickering effect of candlelight. Samurai.jp suggests using the lamp as a way to sustain traditional paper-making culture.
