3 - Ensure spindle collet on lathe is in closed position
4 - Loosen 10mm nut on adjusting screw
5 - Push "Pre-Auto" on control panel to close roller steadies

To make adjustment on outer Roller Steady
6 - Turn screw clockwise for larger material and counter clockwise for smaller material
7 - Test rollers with fingers to ensure optimal light roller tension

Repeat steps for internal Roller Steady.

Today we’d like to show you how to adjust a roller steady on a Minuteman 320. First thing you will do is get material into the bar feeder and also into the lathe: into the bar feed collet, into the main spindle collet, and closed. At that point you have two roller steadies on the bar feeder. You have a stationary roller steady inside the bar feeder and you have a moveable roller steady outside the bar feeder. They both adjust the same way with two screws.

To adjust the rollers, you need the main spindle collet closed on the lathe. You have a 10mm nut on the adjusting screw, make sure it is loose. Then use the handheld controller and push the pre-auto button which will allow the roller steadies to close around the bar stock.

To make the adjustment on the outer, moveable roller steady: Turn screw clockwise to adjust for larger material and counterclockwise for smaller material. Take your finger to your rollers to test tension. If you cannot roll the rollers & material – you need to adjust the screw clockwise until the rollers roll provide a small amount of friction on the bar stock. You will adjust the stable roller steady, located inside the bar feeder, the exact same way.
