Spoiler Alert: The Acela wins, and by a long shot too.
Today, I ventured to Old Saybrook to catch Amtrak's new Avelia Liberty heading up to Boston to do some test runs for the week. What I didn't expect to see was a race between it and the train it will be replacing in around 2 years. A little after 2pm, the Avelia, operating as Extra 874, slowly came through the station on Track 1, and while it was passing by, Acela 2158 rounds the curve west of the station on Track 2, approaching the Avelia at high speed. This is definitely one of my best catches this year.
