A trainer of search and rescue dogs for more than 15 years, Georgia sustained multiple ankle injuries over the course of her career and developed severe arthritis. When it had gotten to the point where it interfered with her ability to work, she traveled to HSS and consulted with Dr. Constantine Demetracopoulos, chief of the foot and ankle service at HSS, about all available surgical and nonsurgical options. Both Georgia and Dr. Demetracopoulos agreed that total ankle replacement surgery would be the best alternative to preserve motion at the joint and improve her quality of life. Following a successful procedure, Georgia can hike and walk when training pain-free and says this ankle replacement has really changed her life.
