On IALA World AtoN Day we feature Cape Byron Lighthouse and the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), who have been recently awarded Heritage Lighthouse of the Year, 2021.
Cape Byron Lighthouse is Australia’s most powerful lighthouse, positioned on the most easterly point of the Australian mainland. It was placed on the Commonwealth Heritage List in 2004.
In 2015, a pilot program was undertaken between Sealite and the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) to upgrade the light to energy efficient, low maintenance LED technology.
The success of this project at Cape Byron Lighthouse has since paved the way for more than 30 lighthouse upgrades across Australia.
