This short video is about my probably quickest DIY project. It took just an hour or so to make the RF Choke Balun which I needed to isolate my EFHW antenna's feeder coax cable from the Common Mode Current (CMC). The CMC is quite typical for the End Fed Half Wavelength antennas. Even if the CMC on the feeder line was not very high due to the low transmitted power (5W) and my Elecraft KX2 transceiver was not behaving any strange affected by the "RF in the shack", it is always good to get rid of this unwanted current. With power outputs higher than 10W, the CMC may create really nasty problems to your radio, computer or home appliances.
My balun is wound of the RG-174 coax cable on the FT-114-43 core toroid , it did pass through it up to 100W of RF power. For the higher power levels , one should choose bigger ferrite toroid cores.
I hope this short video will be useful for you if you were about to install an RF Choke Balun into your antenna system! Please leave your comment below and let us know how was it going for you with getting rid of the CMC! 73! Linas LY2H
