Описание: South Shore Audubon president Russ Comeau calls on us to help save what's left of the Hempstead Plains and to restore the East Meadow Brook so it will still be here in another 100 years and beyond! The history of the Hempstead Plains starts with a glacier melting here 21,000 years ago. Meltwater streams carried sand and gravel that formed the Plains. In the last 125 years, suburban development accelerated so that now, the Plains are almost completely paved over and virtually extinct. Only a 100-acre tract of the original 40-60,000 acres exists, and Comeau hopes this last remnant of this globally rare habitat can be saved for all future generations of people and wildlife.
