Photoelectric sensor are used to sense the presence or absence of an object. They use an infrared beam from a transmitter to a receiver, that when interrupted can send a signal to an external device. Thru beam sensors use two separate units and use a single beam. Retro-reflective sensors are housed in the same unit and use a reflective material to receive the signal. Diffused reflective emit a beam that when reflected back it signals to the unit that there is presence of an object.
