"M" is a song by The Cure from their 1980 album "Seventeen Seconds". "M” was one of the earliest songs written for Seventeen Seconds. It was written before the previous album "Three Imaginary Boys" was released.

Robert Smith wrote this for his wife Mary, who he commonly refers to as "M". Sometimes he'd be rather evasive about the inspiration for the song, saying in 1989 that it was written "about a girl..." Hey, I know at least one more song like that, released in the same year.
