Rangers eased to a two nil win against PAOK who played for over eighty minutes with ten men. Triantafyllos Machairidis was dismissed after two yellow cards, the first for a shocking tackle on Gordon Durie while the second was for timewasting by throwing the ball away. Rangers dominated the first half but it was into the second before Andrei Kanchelskis headed in from a Rod Wallace cross. Wallace added the second ten minutes later with a curling shot from 30 yards and despite late pressure there was no further scoring.
Rangers went through after a goaless draw two weeks later in Thessaloniki.
