We get our next mission, and it is to rescue Diglett, who was taken to the summit of Mt. Steel by a Pokémon called Skarmory. This dungeon has many types of Pokémon, like Steel, Rock, Fighting, and a few others, and this is the first dungeon where we have to deal with a boss Pokémon, which are harder than any normal Pokémon you would find in a dungeon.
As for the rest of the description, I recommend watching the full video before reading past this point of the description
As I have done Blue Rescue Team recently at the time I recorded this video, I wanted to hold off on putting it up until enough time has passed, but I did record more videos for this game. As for this video, we enter Mt. Steel, and I do have some good starting Pokémon for this one, because I am playing as the Fire-type Charmander which gets Ember at Level 7 to help against Steel-types, and with Pikachu as my partner, its Thundershock is very helpful against the part Flying-type Skarmory, and I did see that it is called "Thundershock" in this game and not "ThunderShock" like in later generations, so moves that are meant to be two words but cannot fit due to character limitations are treated as one word in this game.
The following Pokémon in this dungeon are Spearow, Baltoy, Zigzagoon, Aron, Geodude, Tyrogue, Meditite, Beldum, and Pinsir, some of them can be really tough opponents if you are not at a high enough level, ones to watch out for are Meditite's Bide, and Tyrogue has Guts, making it a dangerous opponent if inflicted with a status condition. This is the first dungeon where you can find Gummis, those boost IQ when eaten, and certain types like that particular Gummi, for example, a White Gummi is preferred by Normal-type Pokémon, and dual-type Pokémon, like Spearow for example, gain more IQ than a Pokémon that only has one type, like Zigzagoon. This dungeon also introduces Wonder Orbs, like the Escape Orb which can be used to escape from a dungeon, always good to have one if you are low on items, while the Petrify Orb is useful for immobilizing opponents, good for later dungeons when you have to deal with multiple Pokémon at once.
When you make it to floor 9, that is where our first boss fight happens, Skarmory is not a difficult opponent if you are using Pikachu or any of the Fire-types, Grass-types will have a hard time. A good strategy is to start with a Blast Seed, and then use your attacks to finish off Skarmory, linked moves are really good for boss fights. The downside to being Charmander is that I don't get Smokescreen till Level 19, but it also gets Rage at that level, while the level up moves are based on Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen, Charmander does learn Metal Claw in this game, it learns Rage in Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, & Emerald, so it includes level up moves from those games as well.
After beating Skarmory, it then flees, and we get help from two Magnemite in rescuing Diglett, and we get the Diglett's feet quote, as it is kind of a mystery on whether or nor Diglett has feet or not. Then Dugtrio appears and we receive our reward.
Then time to enter Pokémon Square and check out Wigglytuff Club, this is where you buy Friend Areas, you get two for free, and you also get the Power Plant Friend Area for Magnemite to stay in, and Magnemite is our first recruit, it comes at Level 6, and it is a great team member, while I do already have Pikachu for an Electric-type, Magnemite is really useful as it comes with Thundershock and Metal Sound, and it can learn some good status moves like Supersonic and Thunder Wave, and it learns Sonicboom, a ranged move that deals 55 damage.
After purchasing some Friend Areas from Wigglytuff, we witness a scene at Pokémon Square where Jumpluff asks Shiftry to save its friend, but it is not easy as Shiftry doesn't want to accept, but then Alakazam and his team appear, and only does he convince Shiftry to help does he finally accept. We get introduced to Alakazam's Team, otherwise known as Team A.C.T., which stands for Alakazam, Charizard, and Tyranitar.
As I want to make the Red Rescue Team Playthrough different to Blue Rescue Team, as this is on Nintendo Switch Online and not on the Wii U Virtual Console, one thing I do in this video is the Makuhita Dojo, which is opened up after the events at Pokémon Square. There are six mazes, the first is Grass Maze, the boss for this one is Sunern, Exeggcute, Cacnea, and Shroomish. In Electric Maze, you fight two Voltorb and two Electrike, in Fighting Maze, you fight Hitmonlee, Tyrogue, and Meditite, in Flying Maze, you fight Pidgey, Doduo, and Farfetch'd, for Dark Maze, you fight two Poochyena and two Murkrow, and in the Steel Maze, you fight two Aron and two Beldum.
I show the Pelipper Post Office, where you can do rescue missions with SOS Mail, but as I have not done them before, I didn't even know you can find a monster house this early on, but you can only do one SOS Mail rescue mission per dungeon.
