Hello Friends! Welcome Back to the Garden! Tonight we are shooting outside and the weather is absolutely lovely! I just got back from visiting my friends at Masse Art Studio in Texas last week, along with my dear Sarah Mack and Cathleen Ozmore. While Cathleen and I left on Sunday, Sarah was delayed because of weather conditions and got to stay with Lee & Jeremy for another couple of days and they did a gorgeous Open Cup pour on a huge canvas...which made me wish I was still there painting there with them! So tonight I am inspired by their awesome painting and will be doing an Open Cup pour on a 36x48 inch canvas. Lets get started!

The canvas Im using is a 36x48 inch from Arteza. It is not gallery wrapped, it is 5/8ths on an inch deep. There are pros and cons to using a canvas this thin and big. The one main thing I didnt like at all was the twisting of the frame while I was tilting. I much prefer the sturdiness of the gallery wrapped canvases. The good thing about this thickness of canvas is that its lightweight and probably cheaper to frame. I got this as part of a 5 pack.

I lay down a basecoat of my Behr housepaint, and tilt that around to spread it evenly. I place my rings and pour my colors.. Im actually shocked at how pretty it turned out, I really love the composition and the colors in this piece.

When I do it again I will keep my puddles a little closer grouped together, and I will not forget to get my corners covered with extra paint rather than tilting off some of the best parts. I lost some beautiful sections of blues on this one by tilting to get a corner covered, I should have used more of my housepaint basecoat on the edge instead.

I really enjoyed this pour a lot! I am definitely going to play with Open Cups some more!

Other exciting news.. HoA brought home a beautiful little 8 week old Rottweiler puppy! We are trying to decide on a name for him, I would love to hear which name you guys vote for, and any suggestions you might have!
Our puppy makes a quick cameo appearance at the end LOL I hope you enjoy meeting him!
