A synthetic life alliance from beyond space and time that come in to destroy organic life when summoned. I feel like such destructive individuals would earn the ire of the Q Continuum, even though they claim to not interfere.
Either this is the reason, that the Q actually are the synthetic life forms, or it will turn out that the Q are threatened by these synthetic life forms and cannot directly fight them. Kurtzman's penchant to just make bigger and badder things than before without giving thought to it.
