Guadalupe Peak - Highest Point of Texas!

Описание: My journey to summit the highest points of all 50 states of the USA (DC & Puerto Rico) continues with Guadalupe Peak, the highest point of the state of Texas - the Lone Star State!

Sidenote: My brother Connor shaved his chest to resemble the state of Texas and was proud to display this on the summit, I have to say I was very impressed with his artistic achievement and commend you leave any flattery or gratuitous words in the comment section for this video.

Guadalupe Peak is located in Guadalupe Mountains National Park in western Texas near the New Mexican border. The city of El Paso, TX is about a 2 hour drive west of the national park. Carlsbad, New Mexico is about an hour drive Northeast of the national park.

The summit of Guadalupe Peak stands at 8,751 ft above sea level making it the 14th highest state high point. Following the main trail located in the national park, the total hike is 8.4 miles round trip and about 3,000 ft of elevation gain to the summit in 4.2 miles.

This is easily one of my favorite state high points! This is an intermediate level hike and although challenging at times, overall I found it to be very enjoyable. The national park has provided a well laid out trail that is in excellent condition with several switchbacks that are easy to navigate over a fairly rocky terrain.

What really stands out to me about this hike is the exotic terrain and diverse landscapes as you journey up the mountain. The trail begins in the Chihuahuan Desert traversing a dry rocky terrain full of prickly pear cactus and soap tree yucca plants, as you navigate up the switchbacks it turns into a green pine forest with cooler temperatures and views of the mountain tops. Then, coming across a charming wooden bridge, you begin the final craggy and stone slab ascent to the mountain peak.

A shiny glimmering steel pyramid marks the highpoint of Texas, the coolest state highpoint marker I have seen to date. The summit itself is very expansive with some rocks and ancient coral, and provides one of the greatest views of any state highpoint as you gaze across the white sandy desert terrain, the surrounding majestic Guadalupe mountains, and down upon the colossal El Capitan cliff.

Guadalupe Peak ranks easily as one of my top 3 favorite high point experiences and one I look forward to doing again.
