Lena & her children: "If you'll let me... I'll take care of you" (entry for the Family Ties Contest)

I got through Round 1 of the Family Ties Contest (FTC) vidding Kara's Kryptonian family on the TV show Supergirl, vidding Kara/her biological parents/her aunt/her cousin here:    • Kara's Kryptonian Family - "If these wings...   and now for round 2:    • Family Ties Contest-Round 2   we had to vid a favorite mother/child relationship, or set of relationships if you wanted to vid a child with multiple mothers (which, obviously, I could've done with The Fosters) OR a mother with multiple children. I ended up vidding Lena with all five of her children - actually all six if you count the brief moment of tribute to her premature baby who died the day she was born, Frankie. She has SO many more moments over the course of the show's 3 seasons with her kids too, but unfortunately I ran out of song.

I adore Stef's relationship with her kids too but was in the mood to vid Lena this time. Mainly because I've vidded Stef specifically a little more in collab parts (see below) than Lena. I like variety haha and wanted a chance to capture scenes I never got a chance to vid before.

This is actually my first ever full-length The Fosters vid! I've vidded the show in collab parts quite a bit:    • All of My The Fosters collab parts as of A...   and know it inside out now, actually, even wrote a short (oneshot, Lena/Stef ft. 12-year-old Brandon) fanfic about it and included it in a multi-fandom super personal vid too:    • Kara's Kryptonian Family - "If these wings...   but this is my first vid that is exclusively about the show. Keep an eye out on my playlist of vids in this fandom:    • The Fosters vids of mine   And I might someday soon add more vids to this list. I'd love to do a character study of Mariana for instance, or idk, vid so many other aspects of this show someday actually.

I had so much fun with this and wish I could've vidded the entire song, but I had to cut out the bridge? the part with lyrics that didn't really fit a mother/child relationship at all nor Lena's POV ("It's my birthday; I'll get high if I want to" lmao)... Sorry about that. Hopefully the song cut is seamless enough. Actually this is one of my favorite things to do, especially lately. Take a song that was clearly about a romantic/sexual relationship between the singer and the object of their affection but instead find a way to shift the meaning to be platonic. I love these lyrics and how well they worked for these poor kids all having been hurt and Lena seeing that and caring so deeply. She's so amazing at comforting.

I would've loved to have kept Rihanna, who is biracial much like Lena, singing this song but the original song has a male singer, Drake, singing too much of the song and I really like the entirely female POV for this. Plus, I am a huge fan of Florence and the Machine and only discovered this song when trying to look through F+TM's songs, specifically, for one to vid for my mother/child vid for this contest. Lol. This whole cover is actually very lesbian-friendly, at least!! :P
