Title: HUMAN NATURE: (un)common ground.
Description: My talk will focus on the work I began in 2023, when I spent a good deal of time photographing graffiti and decay in London and Poland. When I returned, I wanted to try merging these images with my landscape photos. I was amazed by the possibilities I found using Photoshop’s blending modes. So I continued to photograph old walls, floors, rusted trucks, and whatever other old textures I could find. I will show different phases of my work and what I am working on now. I will also touch on the process and some of the tools I use to achieve my vision.
Bio: Born in Berkeley, I grew up in Walnut Creek and got my degree in Fine Arts at UC Berkeley. I live in San José, where my husband and I raised our four children. I worked in Apple’s design department for 17 years, then at Black & White Design in Campbell for 21 years before retiring. My focus was design, creative direction, and print production.
I think I got my first Instamatic camera when I was about 12 and have had cameras ever since. Both my father and grandfather loved to photograph. I travel extensively with my camera.
Since retiring a few years ago, I spend half my time at our off-grid cabin in Big Sur. Here I constantly observe how landscapes and moods shift with the rays of sun streaming through the forest trees, the fog creeping up the canyon, the light glistening across the ocean, and the sun and moon dancing on the creek. It has been my refuge for almost 30 years, and every moment with it inspires my art.
