Sheikhupura is a famous historical, rich heritage and cultural city of Province Punjab Pakistan located about 38 kilometers from Lahore, 95 kilometers from Faisalabad, 65 Kilometers from Farooqabad and 56 kilometers from Gujranwala district. Population of Sheikhupura is more than 3 million and area of more than 3000 square kilometer.
Sheikhupura division is divided into 2 districts; District Sheikhupura and District Nankana Sahib and divided into 5 tehsils; Tehsil Sheikhupura, Tehsil Sharaqpur Sharif, Tehsil Muridke, Tehsil Safdarabad and Tehsil Ferozwala.
Sheikhupura is famous for historical sites of Hiran Minar that was built in around 1607 to 1620 along with Barahdari in the memory of his Pet animal Mansraj during hunting in Sheikhupura Hiran Menar Forest with his companions. After the death of Jahangir Emperor's pet Deer, King Jahangir became very sad and he built Hiran Minar and a Barahdari with the help of Irdat Khan in 1616 who constructed the building and a bigger water tank.
Sakala- present Sangla Hill was the historical site in the time of Alexander the Great also famous as Sikandar e azam and studies of a Chinese Archeologist Hieun Psiang showed that Sheikhupura is as old as 1000 BC when Sakala was Capital of Punjab.
Before Mughal Empire the old name of Sheikhupura was Virak or Virk Gharh Garh that was changed into Sheikhupura due to the Pet name of Jahangir Sheikhu. After Mughals - Bhatti tribe, Nadir Shah, Ahmad Shah Abdali and different Sikh rulers ruled the area. Arbail Singh made the Sheikhupura fort his center of rule and looted locals who complained to the Sikh Raja Maharaja Ranjit Singh who later on defeated Arbail Singh and handed over the region of Sheikhupura to Kakar Khawar Singh and then Qila Shiekhupura was held by wife of Ranjit Singh.
After 1840, British ruled the area and build many hospitals, judiciary buildings, Guru Nanak Pura, schools, churches, colleges and connected region SKP with Shahdara railway line.
Sheikhupura region Jandiala Sher Khan also known due to Heer Poet Pir Warish Shah Rahmatullah Alaih whose Heer Ranjha Poetry is one of the best classical master piece of Punjabi literature.
Sheikhupura fort was also built by Badshah Jahangir that is a perfect historical site in center of city.
Sheikhupura Batti or Bati Chowk is famous for different Lari Adda's from where different transport services go to all cities of Pakistan.
Jinnah Park is the famous food street of Sheikhupura where fast foods points, Dahi Bhallay, Chohan Broast, Chaman Icecream and Gol Gappay are very famous.
Ayesha Park, Company Bagh, Sheikhupura Stadium, Johar Park, Iqbal Park, Jinnah Park and Z Block park are the famous grounds and parks of Sheikhupura City.
