Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has begun his Africa tour in Mauritania.He arrived in the country late on Friday and met with the country's leader, President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz. During talks President Aziz reiterated his country's support for the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping. Aziz said Mauritania would like to further enhance coordination with China on issues such as the reform of the UN Security Council so as to jointly safeguard the benefits of African countries. Wang Yi's visit comes just after the conclusion of the Belt and road Forum. The 5 day tour will see him visit Cote d'Ivoire, Cape Verde and also Mali.
