The Volkswagen Golf is currently sold as a 7th generation model and is heading into the sunset shortly. Soon an 8th generation model VW Golf will arrive but it isn't destined for all markets. The current VW Golf 5-seat compact car is sold with a new 1.4L 4-cylinder engine replacing the old 1.8L engine. Also, this latest model is now sold with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The Golf sells better in Canada than the United States so when this latest VW Golf is replaced sometime in 2021 it will only be offered in the Canadian market and not the US. The United states will only get the GTI and Golf R models. The Golf Sportwagen and Alltrack will stop production after 2019, as will the Golf R. Soon a new small SUV will be introduced to replace the Spprtwagen and Alltrack.
