This is pictures from a ghost town in southwest Namibia in Africa. Most of today's Namibia was a german colony from 1884–1915. Kolmanskop became a community because a lot of diamonds were found nearby. If I understand correctly, people who worked and lived here had quite a lot of money.
The community had its own school, hospital, bakery and lots of other things. They even had water and electricity in the houses. At the beginning of the 20th century, I have read, that this was the richest city in the world. I don't know what they based this on? After 1920 the diamonds started to run out, so people moved south to find new diamonds.
Now I have chosen to play music by the german composer Felix Mendelsohn.
Since music is quite easy to play, perhaps this particular music was played here in Kolmanskop at the beginning of the 20th century? I have also recorded the music on my old original grand piano,
which is a salon model. Built 1940 in Hamburg. Maybe it could sound like this in some house in Kolmanskop during the heyday before everything was abandoned?
In this video I use my Sony a7S III and a7R V cameras. For the sound I use my Sennheiser MKH8020 to my Sounddevices Mixpre-10.
