🥥 Rice Rotti
Rice Rotti is a traditional flatbread from Karnataka, India. It’s typically made from rice mixed with water and optional ingredients like grated coconut, chopped onions, ginger, carrot, cumin, green chilies, and dil leaves or coriander leaves. The dough is flattened by hand and cooked on a hot griddle, resulting in a flavorful, slightly chewy bread that’s perfect for breakfast or a light meal.
Ingredients:
2 cups raw rice (fine variety)
1 medium onion (finely chopped)
1–2 green chilies (finely chopped)
2 tbsp fresh grated coconut (optional)
2 tbsp coriander leaves or dil leaves (finely chopped)
1/2 cup carrot
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp ginger chopped
Salt to taste
Oil or ghee for cooking
Instructions:
Mix Ingredients: Soak rice for six hors. grind to thick fine paste adding salt and little water
In a mixing bowl, add chopped onion, green chilies, coconut, coriander, cumin seeds, carrot, ginger and mix to form a soft, pliable dough. It should not be too sticky or too dry.
Shaping the Rotti:
Take a piece of banana leaf, parchment paper, Grease it lightly with oil.
Take a portion of the dough (about the size of a lemon) and flatten it gently with your fingers into a thin round shape (like a thick roti).
Cooking:
Heat a tawa (griddle) on medium heat.Transfer the flattened rotti onto the tawa (you can flip it gently from the banana leaf or parchment).
Drizzle a few drops of oil around it.
Cook for 2–3 minutes on each side or until golden brown spots appear.
Serve:
Serve hot with coconut chutney, butter, or a spicy curry.
🌿 Tips:
For a softer version, cover while cooking.
Make sure to cook on medium heat to avoid burning.
