The Legend of Black Shuck – The Demon Dog of East Anglia
In the storm-lashed churches of 16th century Suffolk, something ran between the pews.
Witnesses claimed a monstrous black dog burst through the doors of St Mary’s Church in Bungay and later appeared again at Holy Trinity Church, Blythburgh on the very same day — 4 August 1577.
Two people were struck down.
Lightning split the tower.
And claw marks still remain on the church door.
They call him Black Shuck.
A great black hound said to roam the lonely roads of East Anglia, with a single burning eye and paws that make no sound.
For centuries, travellers across Norfolk and Suffolk have reported seeing him:
– Standing silently in the road
– Watching from churchyards
– Appearing before violent storms
– Following without ever getting closer
Is he a death omen?
A guardian spirit?
Or something far older?
Tonight, we step into the folklore, the documented sightings, and the chilling accounts that refuse to fade.
Lock the doors.
Listen carefully.
And whatever you do… don’t look into his eye.
