How to calculate the soil bearing pressure underneath the foundation model.
Lateral and vertical foundation pad loading can result in higher soil bearing demands using the rigid approach compared to the flexible method. Based on an underlying FEA model, the flexible method considers the foundation pad's flexibility and non-linear springs representing the underlying soil's behavior. Soil bearing capacity is determined based on:
Soil profile
Soil's ultimate bearing capacity
Factor of safety for the allowable bearing capacity
all of which are customizable by the user. If the soil bearing design check fails, built-in S-FOUNDATION Wizards can be used to iterate the foundation model until the design requirements are met.
The example shown considers gravity loads versus gravity + lateral loading.
